The Airport Shuttle
The day after the wedding was easily the most uneventful of the trip.
I spent the entire morning shuffling people back and forth to the airport.
No one had thought to schedule all their flights at the same time and I was the
only one at the flat who had a car.
So
Doug and Sherrie dragged me out of bed at the crack of dawn (Did I really promise this
last night?) and I drove them to the airport. I got lost on the way back, so I was
treated to an unexpected tour of some of the seedier Melbourne neighborhoods. After
returning to the flat, I managed only about an hour of sleep before it was time to drive
Martin and Chris to the airport. From there I headed out to Werribee to visit the
family.
Invasion
of the Rabbits
I spent the afternoon at the Beck home visiting and relaxing and watching
cricket on TV (Zzzzzzzzzzzzz). They tried to feed me something called vegemite,
which tasted kind of like peanut butter mixed with soy sauce mixed with liquefied
sardines
mixed with poison. I wouldn't feed that crap to prisoners. "Not
bad," I lied politely.
Behind
the Becks' home is a large area of woods through which a small river runs. Dan,
Rowland, and I went for a long walk, hoping to find a platypus in the river, but we had no
luck. The ground in this area has become quite bare, due to an influx of rabbits
over the past few years.
Hard
Rock
I lured Dan and Rowland away in the evening to walk around downtown
Melbourne a bit. (Rowena, if you're reading this, Thanks for letting me steal him
during your honeymoon.) We had a drink at the Hard Rock Cafe, so I could pick up the
T-Shirt my sister Denise wanted. We walked around and ended up at a sushi bar, where
Dan impressed us all with his knowledge of raw fish.
